Sparkman and Stephens 40ft 1965 Cruiser Racer Yacht For Sale Wooden Ships Comments on this Bermudan sloop classic yacht 40ft Bermudan sloop rigged yacht designed by Sparkman and Stephens to the International Cruiser Racer 8 meter rule. Built by Mc Gruer and Co. Ltd to Lloyds 100A1 in 1965. Mc Gruer were known for their run of ‘Cruiser Racer 8m’ yachts, a popular design that offered a fast and easily handled cruising yacht capable of club racing at weekends. The commissioning owner of this yacht was an industrialist from Glasgow and approached Sparkman and Stephens to design him a yacht to the International Cruiser Racer 8m rule. He then asked Mc Gruer to build the yacht and the result is a superb vessel of top-quality construction with arguably prettier lines than Mc Gruers own CR8m yachts. Her construction is a composite design using galvanised frames interspersed between steamed oak timbers. In the previous 30 year ownership, the yacht was subjected to a rigorous maintenance program including complete refastening of the galvanised frames with stainless bolts, each one insulated from the frames to avoid electrolysis. She is now in excellent condition and very original with only a few alterations to bring her up to date. Bought by the current owner in 2021, she is sadly offered for sale due to family circumstances. A comprehensive 2021 survey is available to potential purchasers. This is a very beautiful classic yacht in good condition, ready for next season to go cruising or racing.
