1983 Ocean Alexander 40

Used 1983 3,494 miles
Suamico, WI

1983 Ocean Alexander 40 Double Cabin• Trawler-style cruiser known for its classic lines, solid construction, lavish teak interior and superb joiner work, the heavy glass layup of its hull, its long keel and hard chines for good protection of its running gear and stable smooth ride (including on 1 engine), its ease of handling with relatively low power, good fuel economy, and excellent accommodations and livability. • A 'Great Loop’ veteran, but most of its lifespan spent in freshwater • Heated, indoor winter storage for at least the last 10yrs • Recently restored and upgraded. Windshield and all operating windows replaced and rebuilt with new, matching-tint glass, weather stripping in stainless channel, and original-profile teak frames. Fully-intact teak decking. All exterior brightwork (e.g., handrails, cap rails, toe molding, companionway door, windlass platform, bowsprit, etc.) refinished, beginning with base of (Smith’s) penetrating epoxy. All exterior stainless steel fasteners replaced with US-grade 316. 90% of all rubber (hoses) and clamping replaced. • New battery charger, inverter, power inlets, capstan footswitch, head sump and bilge pumps, float switches, transom shower, spotlight, work lamps, mast stays and turnbuckles, and covers for the flybridge seating, bimini, and companionway. • Engine intake strainers and Racor fuel filters rebuilt • Entire sanitation system replaced (with Shields Poly X) and all other plumbing fixtures either overhauled or replaced • Newer AGM batteries and aluminum zincs • Propeller and rudder shaft seals newly repacked • Newly MRI tuned and balanced props • Fresh bottom paint • SpeedSeal Life fast-change impeller covers and PTFE bearing discs • Engines plumbed for block heaters (included) • Newage PRM 401 transmissions with ‘Get-Home’ devices and engineered for carefree free-wheeling with 1 engine shut down • Extras. Spares. Turn-key ready to go. Remarks from the current owners, directed especially to 1st-time trawler customers: "Living aboard the ‘Andora Bay’ provided some of the most awesome and comfortably pleasurable experiences of our lives—more akin to the charm of living on water’s edge in 1 of the most cozy, warm, and brightest cottages imaginable. "A trawler is very different than a sailboat or express cruiser. No crawling over fellow passengers in order to back into a toilet compartment. No having to make a meal while heeled over in the cold, dark damp below the waterline. You’ll not endure a single moment of claustrophobia thanks to the nearly 360-degree view from the salon’s large and plentiful windows. And you won’t even have to duck your head, anywhere, given the standing head room in every square inch of our vessel's living spaces, including the shower cabinets. “Outfitted with a deep, dual stainless steel sink, a 3-burner range and full-sized fridge, the galley is great, and its ‘up’ layout in the salon makes the whole, open space more like a country kitchen—with a view. The engine compartment is well lit and huge: we can practically stand up in it and reach just about everything with 2 hands. “There is an enormous amount of storage space, including two, floor-to-ceiling hanging lockers (closets), loads of drawers and cabinets, a huge lazarette, and additional space we have yet to use. In fact, the space in the vessel’s characteris¬tic ‘eyebrow’ is big enough to sleep 2 or 3 adventurous kids! “The boat has nineteen ports and windows. Lots of light! Its four portholes have PortVisors, so even while away we keep them wide open, and with the Nicro powered vent with custom lithium battery, the vessel stays fully ventilated—even on cloudy days. Because the sani system runs on the onboard water supply (rather than raw lake or sea water) there’s no odor of rotting algae in the water lines ‘welcoming’ us when we return. "Back on board, the boat is sparkling, and the ports—along with the five opening windows, an overhead hatch in the forward cabin, the 1 for the aft companionway, and two door—provide the kind of flow-thru ventilation you’d find in a backyard gazebo. Alternatively, the insulat¬ing quality of the interior teak paneling, window framing and teak par¬quet soles (flooring), coupled with the zoned air conditioned and heat, mean real comfort from mid-April through mid-summer and into November! Though we never considered this before living aboard, the construction and wood surfaces also create an extremely quiet interior, while the overall layout ensures surprising privacy."Outdoors, the wide side decks, high, rock-solid handrails, raised bulwarks, generous scuppers, and the best no-skid surface money can by—teak planking—not only insure all-weather safety underway, while docking, and especially for the kids, but also make moving around the boat just plain easy and inviting. You walk around rather than crawl on all fours, and like its interior, utilizing ALL of Andora Bay's exterior deck space is a dream. For all these reasons—along with the vessel’s heft, solid build, and stability—we’ve never felt trapped like rats on an over¬sized bobber.“Andora Bay provides a real home—one on the water, not in it, safe and sound, level and dry, where you can just simply step outside and enjoy the starlit skies above.”DimensionsLOA: 40 feet 10 inLWL: 36 feet 8 inBeam: 13ft 4 inDraft: 3 feet six inDisplacement: 22,500 lbsEnginesType: Twin InboardTotal Power: 450 HPEngine 1:Brand/Model: Ford Lehman SP225Type: InboardFuel Type: DieselLocation: PortHours: 3494Propeller: 4-blade 26x20Drive: DirectPower: 225 HPEngine 2:Brand/Model: Ford Lehman SP225Type: InboardFuel Type: DieselLocation: StarboardHours: 1662Propeller: 4-blade 26x20Drive: DirectPower: 225 HPCruising Speed: approximately. 8.3 knots @1500 RPMFuel consumption @ cruise speed: approximately. 5.0 gphMaximum Speed: ten - 11 knotsTanksFresh Water (2): 200 gal.
