Wooden Ships Comments on this Kim Holman Twister Sloop Twister 28 designed by Kim Holman and built by JW & A Upham Ltd of Brixham in 1968. The Twister is one of Holmans iconic designs and has been proven time and again as a fast and capable cruising boat. The design was so successful that production switched to using GRP and many examples were built as either full GRP or composite construction. This boat has had plenty of work done in recent years with a completely rebuilt engine in 2022, recent rigging and sails as well as history of keel bolts and strap floors. I nice example for sensible money.2022 survey available. Length on Deck 27’8”Length Waterline 21’Beam 8’1”Draft 5’4” Construction Carvel planked in mahogany above the waterline, larch below. All copper rivet fastened to steam bent oak timbers. Cast iron ballast keel with mild steel keel bolts. Floors are either sawn timber or galvanised steel. Floors in forecabin have been re-galvanised and replaced with stainless steel bolts in 2017. Marine plywood deck sheathed in epoxy glass cloth and finished with non-slip paint. Varnished mahogany toe rail all round. Varnished mahogany coachroof coamings with a sheathed plywood coachroof deck. Varnished mahogany hand rails and forehatch. Self draining birdpit with a painted plywood sole and varnished teak thwarts. Transom hung rudder with galvanised rudder hangings. Rig Bermudan sloop rig on a deck stepped alloy mast. Mast is stepped in a galvanised tabernacle on the coachroof. Alloy slab reefing boom. Mainsheet makes off to a stainless horse across the aft deck. Stainless steel standing rigging new in 2018 to internal chain plates. 2 chain plates renewed in 2010 in stainless steel, the others are original galvanised. Plastimo 609s roller furling headsail system. 2 x Lewmar 40 self tailing birdpit sheet winches, new in 2018. 3 x Lewmar 16 mast winches for halyards and reefing. Mainsail (2014), genoa (2017), spinnaker and storm jib. Machinery. Still available at ListedBuy!
