She is a proven blue water cruiser and is very well equipped for offshore and liveaboard use.On the homeward leg from Bermuda to Rhode Island in 2006, Tenacity encountered strong gale force winds in the Gulf Stream. Her motion remained comfortable under a double reefed main and staysail despite wave heights of 15-20 feet. After dark, a rogue wave suddenly broke over the first set of spreaders causing a severe knockdown. Tenacity quickly righted herself but damage was done to the mast, boom, running rigging, electronics, dodger and bimini. Her hull and engines were not impacted, and Tenacity brought her crew safely home to Newport, Rhode Island, motor sailing with just a staysail. The boat subsequently had a major refit by Brewers Cove Haven Marina in Barrington, Rhode Island, the yard where she had originally been commissioned. Tenacity was restored to better than new condition. A new mast with rod rigging, new boom, new hard dodger, and a new stainless steel handrail were all obtained directly from the factory at Valiant yachts. Most of the electronics were upgraded to new and improved models. All the canvas was replaced and all systems thoroughly tested.Since 2007, the owners have logged thousands of additional sea miles while continuing to maintain and upgrade the boat. For example the following items were new in 2010: 130% genoa from Quantum sails, five new AGM batteries, new dodger windows and covers, electric macerator pump, LED lights at the masthead, deck and interior, new mainsheet, and new watermaker membranes.Tenacity has been well cared for and she is now ready to take care of her new owners.AccomodationTenacity has a Center Entry Queen layout that results in a generous berth in the forward cabin that measures 66 long x 7 at the head x 19 at the foot. A divided chain locker is forward of the berth and an opening door provides access to the chain. A hawse pipe directs the chain aft to another locker under the foot of the berth which increases stowage capacity and moves the weight low and aft. Two optional cherry lockers to port and two to starboard provide abundant room for stowing clothes or gear. Since there are no tanks under the V-berth this area is available for stowage of large and small items in four compartments accessible under the mattress. In addition, there are generous stowage compartments under the two seats in the forward cabin and in the large pullout drawers beneath the V-berth. There is a cedar-lined and ventilated hanging locker on the port side of the forward cabin and a divided stowage locker on the starboard side. The main cabin has a centerline drop-leaf table with a stowage compartment in the middle and flanked by two settees with lee cloths underneath and stowage outboard. There are custom Valiant cabinets on each side of the main cabin with handholds throughout the interior. The galley is designed for cooking offshore. There is gimbaled propane stove to port with a 3 burner stainless steel oven and a stove crash bar in front of the stove and a stainless steel flash guard over the oven. The galley is equipped with a well-insulated AC Seafrost refrigerator with temperature gauges for the refrigerator and freezer. The galley features a large locker three opening cabinets, three utensil drawers, a slide out trash bin, and a generous of amount of counter space. In addition, there is a deep double stainless steel sink inboard in the galley which assists the drainage of water on a heel. Just to starboard of the galley is the pantry consisting of four large slide-out drawers for the stowage of food and two additional stowage compartments above and below the pantry.A forward facing nav station with custom shelving for electronics is to starboard of the galley. Aft of the navigators seat are the head, dedicated wet locker, stainless steel sink, stowage shelves with sliders, and a separate shower compartment. To port is an aft cabin with a berth measuring 68 x 48. This cabin has an opening window that allows for light, ventilation and easy sail stowage but is easily converted into a private aft cabin with two drawers, a long stowage compartment, a cedar-lined hanging locker, a small seat and a mirror.Aft of the head on the starboard side is an opening that allows access to the engine compartment. Additional engine access is obtained by easily removing the companionway steps. At the base of the companionway is a teak drainage grate while the wet locker for stowage of the wet gear is nearby inside the shower compartment.Galley/PantryRefrigeration: Seafrost BG1000-110 volt single plate system with separate temperature gauges for freezer and refrigerator.Stove: Gimbaled 3 burner stainless steel stove with oven.Fuel: Propane with LPG safety control panel and two 20 lb. propane tanks (New in 2007) in separate vented lockers in the cockpit.Sinks: Deep double stainless steel sink in galley.Manual water pump: One Whale Gusher MK3 foot pump.Pantry locker w/ 4 locking sliding track shelves and automatic lighting when door is openedElectrical SystemBatteries: 5 batteries (4 house and 1 starting); Size & type: Group 27 AGM batteries (New in 2010) Total Amp hours: 460Newmar battery isolatorBattery selector switches: One at the aft bulkhead and a second emergency re-combiner switch under the aft cabin berth.Breaker panel: AC/DC distribution panel with DC voltmeter, amp meter, AC volt meter, reverse polarity indicator, DC breaker with 28 positions available and AC breaker with 12 positions.Battery charger: True Charge 40 - 110 volt automatic 40 ampMeters: Located at electrical distribution panel with additional upgrade to Link 20 battery monitor located on the instrument bulkhead under the companionwayAlternator: Upgrade to Balmar 100 amp alternator with smart regulator.
