Description:
Nortada began life as Royal Yacht AYESHA IV, built in 1924 for Prince Heinrich of Prussia, by the Prussian Imperial Shipwrights in Kiel. She is 48’ on deck, and approximately 57’ rigged (bowsprit to end of Mizzen boom). One of two original Max Oertz designs known to still exist today (38m Schooner AELLO being the other, built in 1921). Nortada has undergone a nearly complete re-build over more than 20 years by her professional shipwright/owner, including replacement of every frame, floor timber, keel bolt, stringers, shear-clamp, stem-gripe, all planking etc. 60% of the deck beams have also been replaced, as well as the entire interior (still in progress).The rebuild was done using modern wood-epoxy construction techniques. Her new laminated Mahogany frames and strip-planked quarter-sawn Doug-Fir planking make tight as a drum and far stronger than when first built. No expense was spared on this project, traveling to three countries to hand- pick only the highest quality lumber, bronze fastenings and fittings available. To date, there has been over half a million dollars spent bringing this boat back to life, as well as thousands and thousands of man-hours. A full report on construction details available on request.I say “nearly complete” because she is only nearly complete. All of the structural work is done. Hull is complete and ready for paint and launching. She is currently primed with Awlgrip 545 on the topsides and Interlux 2000E Epoxy Barrier-Coat on the bottom. Topsides will require a final fairing before gloss coat.New Perkins 4236 installed and ready to fire. Cockpit controls installed and connected. Fuel, exhaust, raw water systems complete.3 brand new aluminum fuel tanks totaling 135 gallons. Electrical system and wiring are installed to the stage that the current interior cabinetry allows (essentially up to counter height). No fixtures are installed other than the red courtesy lighting at the cabin sole. Custom breaker-panels and wiring complete. Shore power system complete, including 3000watt Xantrex Inverter/Charger. Two custom fabricated Hospital/Food grade HDPE water tanks totaling 220 gallonsinstalled and plumbed. Bronze deck-fills installed and plumbed. 6 gallon Stainless Steel marine water heater installed, within 18” of both custom made hammered copper galley and head sinks (No water loss waiting for hot). Drains, sumps, pumps and thru-hulls installed and plumbed.Isotherm 12v Holding Plate spillover freezer/refrigeration system installed.New Lavac vacuum head installed and plumbed, including 30 gallon black water tank, Y-valve system and deck/overboard pump-out fittings.Right and Left handed dual bronze Australian Winch Company (Ideal) windlasses with deck controls, s/s chain pipes and large divided chain locker.Thousands of dollars were spent on custom fabricated bronze and stainless steel fittings and deck hardware. In addition, many of the original fittings and rigging are included and well worthy of re-installation. Some antique electronics will be included as well.Also included:Brand new, still boxed 3 burner Seaward Princess Stove/Oven/Broiler.Brand new 20 gallon Aluminum horizontal propane tank.Approximately 800 bf 3/4 and 4/4 Afromosia (enough to complete the interior).4 polished bronze BARIENT 35 antique winches in impeccable condition (Originally off of Errol Flynn’s Sirocco, potentially worth thousands to the right collector if you choose not to install them).4 cast and polished bronze antique ventilators off of 1926 Herreshoff NY-40 sailing yacht Rascal (also in impeccable condition).Boxes and boxes of original and antique fittings, hardware, compasses, Flare gun, rigging, and miscellaneous other items collected over the years for use on the boat.Still to do:Upper interior cabinetry.Interior cushions, upholstery and decor (You pick it!)New Chainplates are installed, but there is no rig or useable sails, although the bowsprit and booms are in good shape and included Cap-rail and deck hardware to be installed.Teak overlay for cockpit seating needs to be installed, but Teak is cut and included.Negotiable inclusion in the deal is a 1988 48’ Utility semi trailer fit out with industrial steel shelving, and packed with around $80,000 worth of professional wood shop tools, all of the boat gear mentioned above, and a good deal of other exotic lumber, including Teak, Mahogany, Ipe, and a few 20’-22’ planks of 4/4 x 10”-14” Purple Heart, and several sheets of top quality marine-plywood. .I have no delusions of selling her for the half million I have spent on the project, but any realistic offer will be considered, including interesting trades, such as real-estate/raw land, high end RV’s, Paccar Trucks (classic or modern. Hoods only please, unless it’s a custom c/o) , classic cars, etc. No boats, please. I have more than I want now. Cash can be negotiated with trades in either direction.The boat has not been back in the water since the rebuild, and is currently covered in a secure warehouse in Northern California. I, on the other hand, am currently in the Bahamas, so proof of funds will be required for a personal viewing. If desired, take over the lease on the building (currently $350 per month for 50’x72’), set up shop and finish her where she sits (near Chico, CA).
