A keenly priced period piece, MUSKETEER OF STUTTON is a fine and untouched example of the good job the Royal Ocean Racing Club’s Rule did in encouraging sensible offshore yachts with a very long shelf life beyond their initial competitive years. For almost 50 of her 60 years MUSKETEER has roamed the Atlantic and Mediterranean as a bona fide, well-mannered cruiser, while introducing countless novices to the joys of that. Much of her ability for such voyages stems from a snug rig and a thoroughly practical accommodation layout developed by the Camper & Nicholsons design team from bitter experience. But MUSKETEER hasn’t entirely abandoned her competitive ways: she was a class winner at 2017's 30th Anniversary Antigua Classic Regatta. - Repainted the topsides in white - Woodwork in front of coachroof taken right back - Coachroof spline replaced then 8 x varnish - Woodwork around windows, toerail, coachroof, painted/ revarnished - birdpit refurbishment - Areas underneath main winches repaired, winches refitted - Whole birdpit varnished, 2 x coats - Skin fittings & blocks all investigated and fittings serviced - Repainting of ceiling in saloon & heads - Engine serviced and running very well CAMPER & NICHOLSONS YARD NO. 886 MUSKETEER OF STUTTON was designed (principally by Peter Nicholson) and built by Camper and Nicholsons' Southampton yard over the winter of 1962/63. She was launched in the spring of 1963 for Peter (later Sir Peter) Green, then Commodore of the Royal Ocean Racing Club, and featured in that May's Yachting World magazine. Originally built as a yawl, in 1964 she was converted to a sloop by adding 3 feet to the main mast and removing the mizzen. She raced competitively in the UK during the 1960s, winning the RORC points championship at least once and taking part in two Fastnet Races. MUSKETEER's racing career came to an end in June 1970 when she was sold to Nigel Pattison of Itchenor Sailing Club who sailed her to the West Indies. Still available at ListedBuy!
