Up for Sale at auction is my 1997 DONZI Sweet Sixteen speedboat.ORGINWorld Champion racer Don Aronow partnered with Walt Walters and Jim Wynne to found Donzi in 1964, debuting a diminutive16-foot V-hull racer soon dubbed the 'Sweet 16′ by fans. The distinctive vessel drew rave reviews and a number of prominent owners, including President Lyndon B. Johnson.This is a very rare and hard to find specialized boat. This model featuring two swivel bucket seats for both the captain and companion is virtually impossible to find – as most have the wrap-around lounger. The upholstery like the rest of the boat is in excellent condition for its age –with no tears, rips or cracks. The motor starts every time and runs very strong. This is an incredibly fast little boat, built by the creator of the Formula Cigarette boat.THE BOATThe boat is stock except for a small glovebox that I had installed to hold a wallet, glasses, phone and my ship to shore handheld radio. It has two cockpit covers and a heavy duty storage and trailering cover. It comes with a full snap-in carpet that is in good condition. Aside from an am/fm cd player and the factory installed depth finder, it doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, as it was created to do one thing well – Go Fast. The trailer is also included. While this boat is in great condition for its age, it is not perfect.., there is a small area on the bow (about 2 ½ inches in diameter) where the clear-coat is starting to peel, and there is a small power steering hose leak that I just spotted the day I took it out of the water - An easy fix. There are no other leaks – inside or out. Also, the speedometer does not work.., another easy fix.1997 Donzi Sweet 16Donzi boats are known for their speed and performance, as well as stylish exteriors. The Latin word Donzia roughly translates to “I wish I had a cigarette.” The success of the Donzi Classic 16, 18 and 22 translated to the world saying “I wish I had a Donzi.” This powerful vessel can top out at 60-65 mph depending on the fuel load and number of passengers. The exhaust has the ability to be routed to the transom for max performance or through the bottom for “stealth”.56 WITH MORE STILL ON THE THROTTLE56 mph in this boat feels like 125. I did it once - but Never Again. I would have Loved the rush when I was 35, but not so much, now that I am approaching 60. I have only had it for a single season, and while it sometimes scares me, I have absolutely LOVED every minute!This Donzi Sweet 16 Ski Sporter edition is a SUPER RARE freshwater boat that has been well cared for since new. It features a Mercury 4.3 L V6 Alpha One drive. The trailer could use some cosmetic tlc - as there was slight fender damage on the port side as a result of a tire blowout with the previous owner. It has since been repaired.I am only letting it go because I know that I will never take full advantage of it, and my poor wife will not set foot on it – which has become more of a thing than one might imagine. So, I have to get something bigger.., and slower.., Not necessarily a deck boat, or pontoon.., but non-the-less, Slower.. yaay.PLEASE, SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLYThese boats are extremely rare in this condition.
